Cultural Adventures
While diving is the focal point our Indonesia excursions, our trips also incorporate ample opportunities to take in the local culture and explore nearby islands.
On Board
With a crew to diver ratio of greater than 1:1, service is what sets us apart. Each ultra-modern suite feature panoramic views and a private bathroom. Unique to Velocean, signature single suites are also available. As expected, gourmet meals are influenced by Asian Pacific cultures.
Diving
Indonesia’s vast expanse takes in six seas and thousands of islands. More importantly, its location in the center of the Coral Triangle results in scuba diving experiences unlike any other on earth. The best way to see this variety of diving is by dive liveaboard.
- Large reef structures
- Vertical walls thriving with macro-critters
- Caverns and tunnels
- Flowing water perfect for drift dives
This country’s renowned muck diving draws photographers from around the world to capture the tiniest of creatures. It takes a keen eye to find them as they hide in plain site. Keeping fin movement to a minimum helps to not stir the sediment. One’s patience will be rewarded with a glimpse of its unique inhabitants.
Cultural Adventures
Like many islands in the South Pacific, Indonesia is a country of many cultures. Some traditions remain intact while others have been carefully blended to create a modern culture respectful of its rich heritage. Our dive trips seek to showcase the rich marine life below the surface as well as the local culture and manmade and natural attractions. Shore excursions vary by trip itinerary.
- A traditional fishing village
- Scenic views from Penemu Lookout
- Komodo National Park
- Komodo’s pink sand beach
- Perhaps view the elusive Bird of Paradise with its colorful plumage
- World’s largest lizards – Komodo dragons
Dining
Velocean’s dining experience is one of the vessel’s hallmarks of Velocean’s operation. An international menu incorporates fresh local ingredients. Guests can enjoy healthy and nutritious meals showcasing the region’s vast Asian culinary influences. Guests will be able to partake in the popular hot pot dining.
Our culinary team can accommodate special dietary needs.
Itineraries
Banda Sea
The Banda Sea is located at the middle of the Maluku Islands between the two top diving destinations Papau and Java. The plankton-rich waters support reefs and sea mounts with abundant marine life.
- Number of dives: 28 – 40 depending on length of trip
- Highlights: Frogfish, nudibranchs, cuttlefish, seahorses, pipefish, juvenile spadefish and batfish and harlequin shrimp. Large animals will be mobula and eagle rays, sharks, and possibly schooling hammerheads. Big animals such as sharks, barracudas, tuna and trevallies can be seen.
- Skill level: We recommend at least 50 dives of experience and advanced open water certification. Most dives are conducted as drift dives.
- Reefs: Healthy and lush hard and soft corals
Wakatobi
Jacques Cousteau referred to diving the Wakatobi National Park, the third largest in Indonesia, as “diving nirvana”. Wakatobi includes the four (4) main islands of Wangi Wangi, Kaledupa, Tomia, and Binongko encompassed by the park.
- Number of dives: 28 – 40 depending on length of trip

Often overlooked on divers’ “bucket lists”, we believe Komodo to be an exceptional dive destination.

- Reefs: A variety of topography: wall dives, sea mounts and pinnacles, deep swim-throughs and shallow reefs. 260 reef-building corals and 70 types of sponges. Tidal currents originate from deeper, cooler water holding large amounts of nutrients and planktonic organisms that fertilize reefs.
Forgotten Islands (Alor)
The Forgotten Islands are remote and isolated and stretch across one thousand miles of ocean with the Indian Ocean to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south (water temperature can vary depending on the current).
