It would take a lifetime to explore all the scuba-diving opportunities in Indonesia. In addition to its many islands, the types of diving are also extensive.

  • Sheer vertical walls teeming with life
  • Healthy coral gardens with vibrant sea life
  • Coral-encrusted wrecks with large schools of fish
  • Intricate and unique caverns and tunnels

*Some consider this area the best muck diving in the world. Discover the weirdest and most unique critters, often masters of camouflage. Those who spend time researching muck diving in advance will be rewarded. Most importantly, minimize the fin action to avoid disturbing. Bring your camera, go slow and look very closely, then click.

  • The itinerary can include Misool National Park and Arborek depending on the length of the trip.
  • The remote nature of these islands has protected the marine life.

Lembeh Strait

Lembeh Strait, located in a fairly remote region of Northern Sulawesi, Indonesia, is in the center of the Coral Triangle. This body of water separates Lembeh Island from the mainland’s city of Bitung.

  • This is the reputed “Muck Diving Capital of the World.”
  • The waters are revered among muck divers as the holy grail of critter hunting.
  • Bring your macro underwater photo gear and be rewarded.
  • Lembeh Strait offers year-round viewing.
  • Most dive sites have little or no current.
Aurora itinerary

Triton Bay

Triton Bay is a relatively unknown dive destination in West Papua. Protected since 2008, the Kaimana Marine Area, in the center of Triton Bay, showcases numerous species from September to June after the monsoon season. Visibility is slightly diminished from September to December when the water is cooler.

  • Its beautiful, soft and black corals cover the seafloor and are filled with tiny creatures.
  • The area is home to nesting turtles, Byrde’s whales,  migrating whale sharks, wobbegong, long-tailed walking sharks and the recently discovered Nuraslim Flasher Wrasse.
  • Nutrient-rich waters attract vast schools of fish.
Aurora itinerary

Banda Sea

Located between the two top diving destinations, Papau and Java, the Banda Sea is an impressive underwater playground for divers. It is also home to a group of the Moluccas Islands to the north and the Forgotten Islands to the south. The itinerary can include East Flores (Forgotten Islands (Alor)), Komba, Ring of Fire, Nusa Laut and Ambon depending on the length of the trip.

  • Plankton blooms mean the reefs and seamounts are teeming with marine life.
  • Manuk (Snake Island) is one of the best spots to view sea snakes.
  • On wall dives observe sharks, barracudas, tuna and trevallies.
  • Ambon (in the Moluccas) is the best place in the world for muck diving, followed by Lembeh Strait. Digitally capture frogfish, nudibranchs, cuttlefish, seahorses, pipefish, juvenile spadefish, batfish and harlequin shrimp.

Please note that if your last logged dive is more than one (1)  year ago, you will need to participate in a refresher dive.

Travel Protection

Dive insurance is required due to the remote location of the trips, and it is highly recommended that all passengers purchase travel protection to help protect you and your trip investment. For more information and to purchase dive and travel insurance, visit the providers below:

Diveassure: For annual combination trip and dive accident insurance.

Travelex: Travel protection for a single trip. You may choose the ULTIMATE policy and select the optional ADVENTURE COVERAGE upgrade, which waives the policy exclusions for extreme sports such as scuba diving at depths more than 75′. Purchase of Travelex insurance must be within 21 days of your initial deposit date to be eligible for pre-existing medical condition coverage and certain trip cancellation or interruption reasons.

Short-term dive insurance policies can be purchased through DAN World.
