Kenya Itinerary
DAY 1 - Kwetu Aairobi
Arrives At
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport [NBO],
Nairobi, Kenya
Departs for
Check in: Kwetu Nairobi, Curio Collection By Hilton
Nairobi is the capital of Kenya and East Africa’s most cosmopolitan city, with a vibrant population of 4.5 million. Unique to the city is the proximity of Nairobi National Park, a true wilderness area juxtaposed against the larger urban metropolis. It is the only national park like it in the world and a real embodiment of the human-wildlife conflicts that challenge many African communities who must learn to cohabitate with wildlife on their doorstep.
Nairobi National Park is one of the best places in Africa to see rhino and also has a healthy population of lion, leopard, cheetah, and plains game like giraffe and antelope. Other attractions include the Karen Blixen Museum, the Giraffe Center, Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage, a visit to a tea farm, and shopping for local crafts and trinkets. There are some great local and cross-cultural restaurants to explore, from roadside food stalls to local nyama choma (barbecue joints) to five-star dining establishments.
DAY 2 - EAWA Day of Leisure
Today, you’ll have the chance to adjust if you have jet lag, or relax. We overnight at Kwetu Nairobi.
DAY 3 to 5 - Samburu Game Reserve
Departs From
Nairobi’s Wilson Airport [WIL]
Arrives At
Samburu Airstrip [UAS], located in the Samburu National Reserve in the Rift Valley Province near the center of Kenya. Check in at Soroi Larsens Camp.
Samburu Game Reserve
Samburu is a 165 km2 (63 mi2) national reserve situated 350 km (217 mi) north of Nairobi at an altitude of 800 to 1,230m (2,625 – 4,000 ft). At the heart of the reserve, flowing through doum palm groves and thick riverine forest, is the picturesque Ewaso Nyiro River, without whose waters the game could not survive in this arid region. Samburu is home to one of Kenya’s largest elephant populations and several well known research projects on carnivores, lions, and elephants. Four of the Big Five can be found and, though no rhino are present, it is considered an excellent place to look for leopard, lion, and elephant.
The game reserve sits in the shadow of the sacred mountain Ol Doinyo Sabachae and is home to the Nilotic Samburu people. The Samburu are known for their nomadic pastoralist lifestyle, much like their relatives the Maasai, as well as their glamorous beadwork and colourful shukas.
About Soroi Larsens Camp
Soroi Larsens Camp offers a wide variety of activities and experiences that immerse guests in the beauty and culture of Samburu. Visitors can enjoy thrilling game drives, guided bush walks, bird watching, and cultural visits to nearby Samburu villages. Naboisho Airstrip [UAS]
Arrives At
Masai Mara Ol Seki Airstrip, located at the end of a ridge in the Naboisho Conservancy, northeast of the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
The Mara conservancies are Maasai owned group ranches that have combined to conserve a total area nearly the size of the Maasai Mara National Reserve itself, covering 1450 km2 (560 mi2) across fifteen conservancies. The wildlife in the conservancies can be comparable to the main Maasai Mara Game Reserve, and in fact some areas have higher densities of predators than in the central reserve. Because there are fewer camps, the conservancies can offer a more exclusive experience than in the central reserve, with generally fewer game viewing vehicles around sightings.
There are opportunities in some conservancies to do night drives, walking safaris, as well as visits to some of the villages of the local Maasai who own the land.
The conservancy approach is widely seen as the way forward for wildlife conservation and eco-tourism in Kenya, because it not only secures vital space for wildlife but includes the local population as custodians of their national heritage. This has been vital not only for conservation of the whole greater Mara but also wildlife corridors and the prosperity of many hundreds of Maasai families. Nearly forty tourist camps contribute to employment amongst the communities and provide a presence, alongside Maasai anti-poaching units, for the protection of the wildlife.
About Naboisho Conservancy
Naboisho has one of the highest lion densities in the entire Mara ecosystem, so big cat encounters are almost guaranteed. Your guide will work the open grasslands and acacia woodland, following the action wherever it leads. As the light turns golden, you stop somewhere scenic for sundowner drinks and snacks as the sun drops behind the plains. On the way back to camp, your guide switches on the spotlight for a night drive. This is something you can’t do inside the Masai Mara National Reserve the conservancy’s private status allows driving after dark, where the bush comes alive with leopard, hyena, aardwolf, and serval hunting under cover of darkness.
Naboisho is the most intimate during a walk at daylight: no vehicle, no engine noise, just you, your guide, and the bush on foot. The early morning hours are when the predators are most active lions returning from a night hunt, cheetahs scanning the plains from termite mounds, hyena clans on the move. You’ll track animal prints, learn to read the landscape, identify birds by call, and experience the Mara from a completely different perspective. Walking safaris are only available in the conservancy, not the national reserve.
Naboisho spans 50,000 acres with only nine camps in the entire conservancy, so you’ll drive for hours and rarely see another vehicle. Cheetah favour the open plains here, and the resident leopards are frequently spotted along the seasonal rivers and drainage lines.
Naboisho means “coming together” in the Maa language, and over 500 Maasai landowners created this conservancy together. A village visit connects you to the people whose land you’re on and whose partnership makes this entire experience possible.

Naboisho Camp is designed to be as open as possible, taking full advantage of the Mara surroundings. Spot zebra or impala from its thatched-roof main lounge and dining area or swimming pool, and dine with the sights and sounds of the bush as your entertainment, be it the whoops of hyenas at night or the fluttering of weaver birds in the morning. You’ll be taken care of by a warm and hospitable team, all are highly experienced and have worked together for years.

A safari here goes beyond the usual game drives. Explore the Mara on foot, keep your eyes peeled on a night drive or spend an unforgettable night fly camping in the bush for a real safari adventure. With 266 species of birds to spot, there are also ample birdwatching opportunities.
Game drives head out in the early morning and late afternoon when the temperatures are cooler and animals, especially predators, are more active. Generally, you’ll start your day bright and early with a wake-up call and tea or coffee. Enjoy breakfast before you depart for your morning game drive (or have it packed as a picnic to take along). You’ll arrive back in camp mid-morning, with a chance to freshen up before lunch.
After a leisurely lunch, enjoy siesta time. Read a book, take a swim or just relax and enjoy the views. Refuel with an afternoon tea before departing for an afternoon/evening game drive with sundowners. You’ll be back in time for drinks and dinner – the perfect chance to unwind after a long day in the bush.
In addition to game drives, there are also opportunities for cultural & community visits, night drives, and walking safaris – where a passionate and specially trained guide will lead a walk through the savannah, pausing to explain bird and animal behavior, and how all the small things work together, from termites to dung beetles.
